Bob Proctor
"Tell me what you want and I'll show you how to get it," is Bob Proctor's straight-talking motto. And he does! Mr Proctor is one of the best known and best loved self-help teachers of our time, with decades of experience behind him and a lineage that goes straight back to Andrew Carnegie. This guy is the real deal. He knows what works and what doesn't and like all wonderful teachers, his own life experience is part of his great knowledge.
Bob Proctor is the author of the bestseller You Were Born Rich. He was hugely influenced by Earl Nightingale who was one of Napoleon Hill's proteges. In turn, Napoleon Hill was the author who wrote the classic Think and Grow Rich, after meeting the great Andrew Carnegie. I think of Bob Proctor as being the carrier of lifetimes of wisdom and experience, distilled down though the decades by all the great teachers before him, who passed the flame of knowledge to each other. The kind and wise face of Bob Proctor is the first to appear in The Secret movie. True to form, he gets straight to the point: "The secret is The Law of Attraction", he says. Bob's appearance in The Secret movie is completely unscripted and virtually unplanned. He turned up at short notice, at the request of producer, Rhonda Byrne, and spoke on camera about his philosophy of life and the techniques he uses to help people be successful. No wonder he didn't need to prepare a script. 73-year-old Bob Proctor has lived and breathed The Law of Attraction since he was a young man starting out in life, with not a lot going for him. But once he discovered "the secret", he used it to transform his relatively downbeat life to one of unbounded success. Proctor began life with little education and none of the easy business connections that give many people their first break. He worked for the Fire Department having left school early. He would probably have remained there for the rest of his life were it not for a fortuitous meeting with a work colleague, who gave him a copy of Napoleon Hill's book Think and Grow Rich, which he read avidly, referring frequently to the dictionary for help. That wonderful little book changed the course of Proctor's life, but only because he acted on the wisdom he took from it and did three things: - he changed his emotional conditioning
- he changed his thought patterns
- he began to visualise the success he wanted to have.
He was aged 26 at the time. From that point on, his fortunes changed and eventually led him to work for the pioneer of success coaching, Earl Nightingale. Everything Bob has today, he won for himself, using the Law of Attraction.
Wealth Mentoring
Today, much of his time is spent teaching others how to re-program their minds to attract wealth and success, in the very same way that he did. One of the lovely things about Bob's mentoring of others, is how deeply he understands the need for us all to have a wealth mentor---because he himself was lucky to have had one of the greatest mentors of all time, Earl Nightingale. It was Earl Nighingale who probably first referred to the Law of Attraction as "the secret" in a recording he made in 1959, called The Strangest Secret. And what was the secret? As Earl Nightingale put it, "We become what we think about." Earl Nightingale's self-help audio became a bestseller in his time. I think it is interesting that Nightingale also talks about "positive imagery" and "emotional conditioning". In other words, visualising your wishes and addressing your feelings. Doing the work! Working with the Law of Attraction is not just about thinking positive thoughts for a few minutes a day, as many people mistakenly believe. It never was. You have to do the deeper work too, otherwise you will not be working with the Law of Attraction.
Bob Proctor and The Law of Attraction
Bob Proctor has a really neat way of describing The Law of Attraction. This is his take on it: Every cell in your body has a positive and a negative pole. If you think about a house for example, you can think positive or negative thoughts about that house. The house isn't either positive or negative. It's how you perceive it that's positive or negative. This sets up either positive or negative vibrations in your cells. You then attract either postive or negative results, associated with a house, or houses, into your life, according to how your thoughts and perceptions vibrate. As Proctor sees it, It's all about the wiring, stupid! Well, he doesn't actually say "stupid", being the gentleman he is, but you know what I mean----once you get The Law of Attraction, it seems so obvious and so simple, that it does seem stupid to try to live your life in defiance of it, like most of us do. Most of us have bad wiring in our thought processes that makes us repell the very things we want and need. To solve this, we have to rewire our brains, to set up positive vibrations around the things we want. Proctor's explanation of the polarity of thought, helped me understand how we attract the opposite of what we really want, most of the time. I believe this is one of the reasons why people brought up in poverty often stay poor. They are trapped in a 'poverty consciousness' which they cannot break out of, because it's all they have ever known. For many, the sad reality is, that no matter how hard they try, they never achieve wealth, because wealth is not something they can easily imagine and feel, and therefore they will continue to attract struggle and lack. For those of us who are parents, I think it is especially important that we become aware of what consciousness, or world-view we are creating for our children. If you are short of money, for example, you should never tell your child "we are poor". You should just tell them that you don't have a lot of money right now, but it won't always be like that, because you have the power to create your own wealth and that's what you are working on. In the meantime, you may be temporarily broke, but that's okay. Some of the most successful people on the planet have been temporarily broke. But I bet they never thought of themselves as "poor".
